Barrel aged coffee is coffee that has been aged in retired whiskey, bourbon, or rum barrels. The green (unroasted) coffee beans are aged in the barrels for up to a few weeks at a time, allowing them to take in all the flavor that is left in the wooden barrels, slowly developing a complex flavor profile.
After the coffee beans have aged, we then roast them to a medium level, which best showcases the flavors of strong smoked maple and vanilla aromas and flavors. Whiskey barrel aged coffee can be brewed hot or cold, but more flavor will be detected with cold brew. (Remember you can always heat up cold brew for a hot coffee drink.)
We’ve partnered with Bad Dog Distillery of Arlington, Washington using their Maple Smoked Malt whiskey barrels paired with our single origin Brazil with its sweet, nutty flavor notes have created an amazing taste profile. There is no alcohol or artificial flavorings in these Whiskey Barrel coffees.
